"The International Directory of Art Libraries, compiled and edited for the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, Section of Art Libraries, by Thomas E. Hill (Munchen: K. G. Saur, 1997) is the most useful directory for your question.  It is devoted to art libraries and does provide information on the number of volumes held by an institution.  Other directories in our collection do not provide listings by subject area, or are too voluminous in content (such as the Official Museum Directory) for us to peruse for subject and holdings information.  Below is a list of libraries found in The International Directory of Art Libraries which indicate 200,000 or more volumes in their collections.  Please note that some of the libraries include related subject fields such as architecture, archaeology, etc., and also bear in mind that our edition of the directory dates from 1997.
